Atal Tunnel set for formal inauguration soon. Connecting Manali to Leh.

The first talks of this tunnel was discussed in 1960 under the Prime Ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1960 where various options for connection was discussed back then. So technically it took 39 years for the all weather connectivity to be possible.

Rohtang Tunnel now called as The Atal Tunnel is ready for inauguration.

This tunnel is built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas on the Leh - Manali Highway. This all weather tunnel stretching for around 8.8 kms is also the world longest tunnel above an altitude of 3,000 metres. This will save 46 kms of travel distance as your zip in and out of the tunnel in 10 mins, this tunnel will also save 4.5 hours of travel time between Manali and Leh. The 10.5 metre single tube bi lane tunnel is constructed with a fire proof escape built into the main tunnel itself.

The long wait of the locals and tourists finally is answered. The foundation stone was laid in 2010 and it took several years for completion as it was quite a difficult terrain to construct the tunnel. The biggest challenge was faced due to the Seri Nalla Zone as the glacier source bringing in water upto 127 litres per second could not be detected.

The area experienced 6 months of zero connectivity with no food supplies coming in, no emergency medical attention possible, absolute unreachable by all means even the helicopters could not access those remote areas incase of any emergency or natural calamity .

This is indeed an Historic accomplishment not just for the tourism sector which off course will benefit from the tunnel's connectivity but majorly for the locals who always remained completely unapproachable every winter.

Lets celebrate this wonderful achievement accomplished by BRO (Border Roads Organisation) who always lives up to it motto (Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam) meaning everything is achievable through Hard Work.
